About me

I am a degreed Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science Programming.
I specialize in Computer Engineering and Embedded Systems.

I also have a wealth of knowledge in many of the other engineering disciplines to which my degree does not directly speak to. I have great personal communication skills, work ethic, teamwork, accountability, and overall drive to be the best I can be. I Have developed these skills through many years of Professional Experience, Education and through my Athletic Career.

Welcome:

Hello, My name is Parker Wubbena. Welcome to my Engineering Portfolio, I am the sole Proprietor of PLW Engineering and this portfolio consists of Professional work as well as my personal projects that I have done throughout the years at the enthusiast and hobbyist level. This website is designed for Clients, Employers, and Fans alike to get a better idea of not only who I am as a professional but also as a person and to spark conversation. I have designed and put together this website myself and maintain and update it as often as I can. My Web Portfolio is a constant work in progress as updating and maintaining something like this can be quite an undertaking on top of my day to day duties.

Short Engineering Autobiography:

From as far back as I can recall I have always had an engineering mind. When I was really little, I was obsessed with sprinklers… Then Legos… then snap circuits which eventually lead to the culmination of the two, Lego Mindstorm and Lego technic. This enabled me to learn many principals of engineering and math while I was still in elementary school playing with the mechanical aspects as well as learning to program my Legos to carry out tasks on their own, all things I remember fondly from my child hood. When I advanced to grade 6 and 7 I was presented with the school science fair where I was further encouraged to follow my love for mechanics, electronics, and the scientific process. For my first science fair I schemed up a plan to acquire the material necessary to build an electro magnetic accelerator that I could use and experiment with. I had recently discovered the power of high voltage capacitors and was able to source some 30+ used disposable cameras from my local Walgreens to pull the capacitors and charging circuits out of as purchasing these materials was not in my 6th grade budget. I had enough wire and circuitry in my tool box of electronics, that I had for tinkering and I was able to build a miniaturized Rail Gun that fired metal projectiles at safe but exciting speeds across my garage. My project ended up being a huge success at the science fair and I was fueled to improve my design for the next years fair by switching my magnetic rails to copper coils and improving capacitor discharge with a specialized firing circuit. After Fair 1 and 2 I dove deeper in to Computer programming by taking my schools computer and game design classes to which I animated scenes using flow state programming and designed a multi hour long RP Game, to which I was awarded the best game our teacher has ever seen a middle schooler create. Remember, this was all before I entered Highschool. Once in high school I proceeded to take all the programming classes they offered learning early concepts of C, Java, and Python while experimenting building programs. I continued my love for engineering when I got my first car and became driven to learn everything there was to know about engines and automotive control units. This lead way to my introduction to microcontrollers where taught myself how communicate with CAN bus, build IR controllers, send signals through RF, and control relays over Wi-Fi utilizing the affordable ESP8266 and ATmega architectures. My computer gradually became full of different software, IDEs, and program sketches that I had designed. I was intrigued with the up and coming concepts of Internet of Things and many of my projects became cheap smart home like creations consisting of microcontrollers, circuit boards, wires, and peripheral devices. Throughout my years into adult hood I stayed following my love for programming, electronics, and engineering.  So when it came down to deciding what career I wanted to follow Engineering was clearly the way to follow my passion. While I was intrigued with Civil and Loved everything Mechanical my true passion was Electrical and anything else computer related. I was a high achieving student out of high school and decided to attend Washington state University and enroll in their College of Engineering. I further learned enhansed my engineering knowledge while honing my skills finding that I already had strong back ground in my previous experiences. I am now a degreed engineer building my career doing what I love.

Short Athletics Autobiography:

Another part of my story I have failed to mention up until this point is athletics and my dedication to self improvement and collaborative team effort. Growing up I was always an athletic kid and had a love for sports. I played pretty much every sport offered in my local area, sometimes competing in two sports during the same season when I was younger. By the time I had grown up a little bit I discovered I had a real knack for running and began focusing primarily on track and field while supplementing my off seasons with Golf, basketball, and football. By 2013 I was recruited to an elite running team and advanced through qualifying meets eventually making it to the Junior Olympics that summer, where I became a junior Olympic all American at the age of 14. I continued to medal at the junior Olympics two more times in 2015 and 2016. I also competed at the state level for my high school and my success in eventually landed me a recruitment trip to Washing state University to be a member of their Division I collegiate track and field team. I studied Engineering as a student athlete at Washington State University for two years before following my love for D1 athletics to a different program at Eastern Washington university where I competed and placed in multiple BigSky conference championships throughout the western United states as a 400m Hurdler and Decathlete. I eventually completed my engineering degree along with my athletic career and have since moved back to my home town to build my career as a professional engineer. I am truly thankful and humbled by the experiences, knowledge, and abilities I have gained through athletics and engineering and feel it is important to share both sides of myself as being a well rounded individual is one of my most valued traits.

Through these experiences I have learned work ethic, powerful communication skills, teamwork, and accountability all of which I believe to be the keys to success, and transfer to who I am as Person, Friend, and Professional.

Personal & Athletic Achievements

Throughout my Primary and Collegiate academic career I was consistently a Scholar Athlete and Team Leader.

In addition to my academic achievements I have competed at the State, Junior Olympic, and NCAA Division I Levels. All my life I have worked very hard to excel at everything that I do and be the best that I can possibly be.
